REMEMBER

​Every year a day is set aside to remember those Jews who died in the Holocaust. This annual memorial is called Yom HaShoah, observed this year on May 2, 2000 (27 Nissan, 5760). There are many sources available in libraries and museums, as well as on the Internet, that tell of the atrocities committed against the Jewish people before and during World War II in Nazi Germany and elsewhere. Just as plentiful are sources documenting present day actions and words by people and organizations around the world that reflect the same hatred toward Jews that resulted in the Holocaust. Is it possible that the Holocaust could happen again? Once you read this newsletter you may agree that the evidence of the anti-Semitic attitudes and actions around the world support a "Yes" answer to that question.

TIMELINE

May, 1999 - A note reading "A bomb is in the school to kill Jews," was found at Shawnee High School in New Jersey. (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
July, 1999 - Leopold Kaymnonvsky, a Russian Jewish leader, was stabbed several times by a young man identified as a neo-Nazi. Earlier in the year bombs exploded near two Moscow synagogues. (Fox News Direct)
July 4, 1999 - Several Orthodox Jews were shot at on their way home from Sabbath services in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. Six were wounded. (The New York Times)
August, 1999 - An Israeli from the community of Nof Ayalon, Yehuda Eli Naftali, was stabbed in an apparent anti-Semitic attack in Zurich, Switzerland. (Dispatch From Jerusalem, Vol. 4, #25)
August, 1999 - A temple in Happauge, Long Island, New York, was set ablaze in what local police have called a "hate crime." (Dispatch From Jerusalem, Vol. 4, #25)
August, 1999 - The wife of an employee of the Swedish telephone company Ericsson called Jews thieves, liars and cheats when the staff at a Tel Aviv hotel lost her family's horse reins. She also said, "It's a shame that Hitler did not finish off the job." (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
August 9, 1999 - Buford Furrow went on a shooting spree in a Los Angeles Jewish Community Center wounding 5 people, four of them children. After his arrest he referred to his actions as "a wake up call to America to kill Jews." (Dispatch From Jerusalem, Vol. 4, #25)
August 13, 1999 - Two observant Jewish men were brutally attacked - knocked to the ground by two young men and beaten with a lead pipe - outside a Toronto, Canada synagogue. (Dispatch from Jerusalem, Vol. 24, No. 5)
Fall, 1999 - Over 100 gravestones in the Weissensee Jewish cemetery in Berlin, Europe's largest Jewish cemetery, were desecrated in what police said appeared to have been a neo-Nazi attack. (Roger Cohen, New York Times) (Dispatch from Jerusalem, Vol. 24, No. 5)
Fall, 1999 - In Atlanta, Georgia an Orthodox Jewish family was walking home from a synagogue when a man in a car yelled at them, "Jews, get off the street!" Prior to their visit in Atlanta the family had been in Vienna, Austria, where youths in the street yelled "Heil Hitler" at them. (The Jewish Georgian, Jan-Feb, 2000)
February, 2000 - The Austrian government chose to include members of Jorg Haider's Freedom Party in its coalition. Haider has praised Adolf Hitler's employment policies and has called veterans of the Nazi Waffen SS "men of character." (Roland Prinz, Associated Press)
April, 2000 - A small synagogue in Erfurt, Germany "was targeted in an attempted arson attack, possibly by Neo-Nazis angry that police had broken up a party celebrating Adolf Hitler's birthday. A note was found about 100 yards from the scene claiming the attack was anti-Semitic and signed with ‘Heil Hitler!’"
April 25, 2000 - An anthrax scare forced more than 30 students and staff at the University of Pennsylvania Hillel in Philadelphia to evacuate their main campus building. The evacuation was ordered after the director of the school's Hillel chapter, Jeremy Brochin, opened an envelope that contained an anti-Semitic letter and white powder identified by the letter-writer as anthrax. Brochin was quarantined for about two hours until the city's hazardous materials unit determined the powder was harmless. (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

HOLOCAUST DENIAL

"In America, which had little to do with the event itself, there is an ever-growing Holocaust industry in academia. There is a Holocaust publishing industry and a Holocaust Hollywood. There are Holocaust museums and memorials trying to make concrete what might otherwise become dated and ephemeral. And there is the Holocaust-promoting chorus of wealthy and influential American Jews who make sure we never forget."

" 'Never forgetting' is the best way to intensify the collective guilt on the part of America's Christian majority and boost the Holocaust industry's favorite political cause-the state of Israel. Guilt, laced with liberally dispensed charges of anti-Semitism for opponents and sweetened with a heavy sprinkling of PAC money, has made the Israel-firsters masters of the executive and legislative branches. Easy and often exclusive access to the media shapes public opinion. And at the end there is a pot of gold: unlimited political and military support plus $6 billion in U.S. taxpayer-provided annual aid to a country that is one of the richest on earth."

"Nazis killing Jews has become the paradigm for modern-day genocide, but the Holocaust is hardly unique in the 20th century, which affords numerous examples of mass killing. The politics of mass murder nowadays, as practiced by dictators and democrats alike, is all about killing people with words before you actually shoot them. Perversely, the Holocaust is used to justify killing yet more people; i.e., to 'prevent another Holocaust.'"

"The purpose of Israel is to remind Europe and the US of the crematoriums in which, according to Israeli claims, six million Jews were killed. Yet, in their historical research, scholars emphasize that this figure is greatly exaggerated. [R]ecords published by Jewish organizations in the US mentioned that during Hitler's time, there were only three million Jews in Europe, as was determined by the great French intellectual, Rojer Garaudi. Israel's purpose in commemorating the Holocaust is to keep these countries under the weight of a guilt complex in order to continue to extort millions of dollars from them. [They were] used by the Zionist movement for two purposes: first, to terrify the European countries during WWII so that the Jews would flee from Europe to Palestine, because the Zionist movement realized that the Jews ignored its call to immigrate to Palestine."

British Justice Charles Gray has ruled that Deborah Lipstadt's portrayal of David Irving as a dangerous leader of the movement to minimize the Holocaust in her 1994 book, Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory, was substantiated by evidence presented during the trial of the libel suit filed against Lipstadt by Irving. Gray said the evidence showed that Irving "persistently and deliberately manipulated historical evidence" and that he portrayed Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in a favorable light that is unsupportable by the historical record. "It appears to me to be incontrovertible that Irving qualifies as a Holocaust denier." (Bert Roughton Jr., Atlanta Journal-Constitution, April 12, 2000)

INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

"The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is pledged to universality, and indeed is composed of 176 member societies from every corner of the earth. One exception: Israel. Israel's Red Cross--the Magen David Adom--is denied admission. It is relegated to observer status. Why? The excuse is the MDA's symbol: Israel's society uses not a red cross or (as do Muslim societies) a red crescent, but a red Shield (or Star) of David. To admit the Israeli society, says the federation (and its associate body, the International Committee of the Red Cross), would lead to a proliferation of other symbols. What nonsense. First of all, the red cross was not intended at its founding to be a religious symbol at all. It was drawn from the Swiss flag, as a symbol of neutrality and as homage to its Swiss founders. In deference to the sensibility of Turkey and Egypt and other Islamic countries, Muslims were permitted to substitute the red crescent. There was no great concern about proliferation of symbols then. An inside look at the United Nations by James Bone of the London Times

"Perhaps Israel should have taken heed of Groucho Marx's famous advice that he would never join a club that would have him as a member. After half a century of being ostracized from the United Nations' Asian bloc because of the opposition of Muslim countries, Israel is on the brink of joining the Western European and Others Group (WEOG). Behind the scenes, however, negotiators have attached so many strings that it is unlikely Israel will be elected to represent WEOG on any UN bodies for years to come, if ever. For Israel, WEOG membership would be an important symbol of ending its longstanding isolation at the United Nations, a process that began with the 1991 repeal of the General Assembly's 1975 resolution declaring "Zionism Equals Racism." WEOG is a Western club that unites European Union members with the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and a host of smaller nations like Lichtenstein and Malta. Its chief purpose is to select candidates for elections to UN bodies, including the Security Council. After months of discussion, political directors from the European Union last week quietly agreed the conditions under which the European countries would accept Israel into WEOG. The package is now being put to the other WEOG nations. So-called "modalities" make clear that Israel will receive only "temporary" membership in the Western club and will have to report every two years on its efforts to join the Asian group. There will be a full review of Israel's membership after four years, and Israel will be excluded from participation in that decision.

The most significant restrictions, however, are on Israel's ability to get elected as a WEOG candidate. The "modalities," which are almost certain to be adopted, propose a two-year moratorium on Israel's participation in contested elections, including for prized seats on the Security Council. Israel will also have to agree not to disturb existing "rotation" arrangements in bodies where WEOG fields only agreed candidates, such as the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Such "rotations," which include the WEOG chairmanship, are often agreed on years in advance. Only when WEOG does not field any other candidates for a UN position will Israel be able to compete immediately." (April 25, 2000)

WHAT ISRAEL’S MIDDLE EAST PEACE PARTNERS HAVE TO SAY

The Egyptian daily AKBAR AL-YOM, (August 13, 1999 edition) praised LA gunman Buford Furrow for his calls to murder the whole of American Jewry. The editor of AKBAR said that Furrow "has a goal to annihilate the Jewish race in the United States. I ask god to assist him in his efforts to attain this goal. Let us join together saying, 'May it be god's will.'" (Dispatch from Jerusalem, Vol. 24, No.6)

" 'The hands of the U.S. are fully stained with the blood of the Palestinians.' The only solution to unrest in the Middle East is 'namely the annihilation and destruction of the Zionist State.'" PALESTINE FATEH MOVEMENT CONSTITUTION: Excerpts from Chapter 1

Article (4) The Palestinian struggle is part and parcel of the world-wide struggle against Zionism, colonialism and international imperialism.

Article (7) The Zionist Movement is racial, colonial and aggressive in ideology, goals, organisation and method.

Article (8) The Israeli existence in Palestine is a Zionist invasion with a colonial expansive base, and it is a natural ally to colonialism and international imperialism.

Article (12) Complete liberation of Palestine, and eradication of Zionist economic, political, military and cultural existence.

Article (19) Armed struggle is a strategy and not a tactic, and the Palestinian Arab People's armed revolution is a decisive factor in the liberation fight and in uprooting the Zionist existence, and this struggle will not cease unless the Zionist state is demolished and Palestine is completely liberated.

CHOICE

The words and actions of all of these people reflect a choice they have made to reject the Jews as a people because they are Jews. Their attitudes are not new. Since Yahweh called out Abraham to be the Father of His People through his son Isaac and his grandson Jacob, Yahweh’s people have faced the hatred of others just because of who they are. Yet, there is one Jew Who they neglect to realize (or acknowledge) is a Jew - Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ). It seems quite a paradox for people to profess belief in Messiah Yeshua and for them to hate Jews at the same time. If you have never thought about this before, please think about it now. It’s a choice between hate and Love.
